The essentials
- Use a card for card checkout and a verified SPEI route when the recipient needs pesos in a bank account.
- Do not count card cashback on a bank transfer; compare the exact MXN received and the final quote.
- Save the SPEI tracking reference and check its status before retrying a missing payment.
Ask what the recipient can accept
A hypothetical Monterrey tenant can buy groceries with a card, but the landlord requests MXN 9,500 into a bank account. Treat these as different instructions. Confirm the rent amount, recipient identity and bank details through a known channel; do not substitute a card payment link that the landlord never provided.
KAST’s fee page checked on 8 September 2026 lists both SPEI deposits and withdrawals. Its separate sending guidance describes the Mexican bank payout flow. That is evidence of documented features, not confirmation that every account is enabled. Check your available Send and Receive options before planning around either direction.
- Confirm the requested payment method.
- Verify the recipient independently.
- Save the quote and payment reference.
Compare what arrives, not just what leaves
For the rent transfer, work backwards from the exact pesos the landlord must receive. Review the current rate, any fee and estimated arrival in the available payout flow. A generic fee heading can differ from a specific provider route, so the final transaction quote deserves its own saved record.
For groceries, instead compare the merchant’s MXN receipt with the settled card debit and usable rewards. A card cashback assumption should not be applied to the bank transfer. The two routes may use the same starting stablecoin balance while producing different fees, evidence and destinations for any returned money.

Trace the correct payment system
If the rent does not arrive, collect the transfer date, amount, recipient bank details and tracking reference. Banco de México explains SPEI status checks and CEP receipts. Use the information supplied for that bank transfer; a card transaction identifier will not replace a missing SPEI tracking reference in a transfer lookup.
If the grocery payment fails, check card authorization status and ask the card provider about the merchant charge instead. Avoid repeating either payment until you know whether the first attempt is pending or completed. Clear route labels prevent duplicate rent payments and keep a card hold from being mistaken for a failed bank transfer.
