Brazil’s Pix Automático: subscriptions need a control panel too

When the monthly payment button disappears, what should you check instead? Pix Automático is a useful prompt to review amounts, frequency and permissions.

The essentials

  • Automatic payment makes paying easier, not budgeting automatic.
  • Keep a list of approved businesses, amount limits and frequency.

Pix for recurring payments

Brazil’s central bank announced Pix Automático for 16 June 2025. It enables recurring collections after an authorization, with controls to cancel permission and set a maximum charge. This is a practical explainer of an established payment feature, not a claim that it launched today.

Write down three fictional subscriptions

For illustration, monthly music at R$30, video at R$50 and exercise at R$120 total R$200, or R$2,400 over a year if prices stay unchanged. These are invented prices. Before switching the payment method, add whether you used each service last month and its next billing date. Fewer payment clicks and a useful subscription are different things.

Review permission and service status

Review your bank-app authorizations alongside the provider’s subscription records. Do not assume cancelling payment permission also ends a service agreement or erases an amount owed; check the provider’s cancellation process and confirmation. Likewise, a card or wallet mentioning Pix does not by itself establish support for Pix Automático. Confirm that particular feature before relying on it.
