From USDC to MXN: compare the full cost

Compare the final balance needed for the same purchase, rather than relying on a single displayed exchange rate.

The essentials

  • Compare both routes for the same MXN amount.
  • Do not confuse SPEI payouts with deposits.
  • Keep the reference for the route that failed.

For Mexico, compare routes using the same MXN purchase amount. Put spending an existing USDC balance by card beside converting through a lawful service and using a local payment method. Request actual quotes instead of assuming one route always costs less.

List the supported asset and network, transfer steps, conversion costs, card fees and applicable rewards. Express the final comparison in MXN. Once the charge settles, record the actual amount beside your estimate. Record refunds separately. Use a small purchase you already need rather than spending unnecessarily to unlock a reward.

Turn two live quotes into a comparison

For each quote, record the same MXN purchase amount, USDC required, network, separate transfer fee, included conversion costs and quote time. Do not add an included fee twice. Identify whether the quote estimates card spending or MXN arriving in a bank account. Align both routes to the same final purchase, then replace estimates with settled amounts.

Work back from the pesos you need

Recording only how much USDC you sent can miss the true cost of peso spending. For the same MXN purchase, compare the final card debit with the route of sending MXN to a bank and paying locally. Inspect both quotes at a similar time because exchange rates and fees can change.

The SPEI quote in KAST’s Send flow describes a payout amount and cost. It is not a SPEI deposit address. Check the recipient’s account details and the final MXN amount before proceeding with that separate bank-payment route.

Keep transfer and card references distinct

For a SPEI transfer that has not arrived, retain the date, banks, recipient account, amount and tracking reference. Banco de México provides guidance on CEP receipts and payment-status checks. That transfer lookup does not resolve a card authorization or purchase refund.

For a card problem, collect the merchant receipt and the card app’s transaction reference for card support instead. Identifying the route where money stopped helps you contact the right operator and explain the issue once, rather than sending a bank-transfer reference to a card-refund team.
