ether.fi at $4,000 a month: why USD and EUR rewards differ

The June 24 notice describes zero FX markup for EUR purchases in beta. USD and EUR use different reward bands, so the same spending needs separate calculations.

The essentials

  • Zero EUR FX markup is in beta; funding costs still apply.
  • At hypothetical $4,000 eligible spend: USD bands yield $75; EUR bands $33.50.
  • Compare after checking merchant billing currency and your funding costs.

The change concerns EUR purchase markup

The dedicated EUR notice describes a beta with zero FX markup on EUR-billed purchases using USDC or EURC. June 24 is the publication date, not a separately verified effective date. It does not make asset purchase premiums, exchange withdrawal fees or network transfers free. Record billing currency and funding route separately to identify remaining costs.

Where Core earns 3%

Core’s standard USD ladder is 3% on the first $2,000, 1% on the next $1,000 and 0.5% afterward. EUR-billed purchases use USD-equivalent monthly thresholds of $800 at 3%, up to $1,500 at 1%, then 0.1%. The currencies share a monthly spending counter, making mixed payments order-sensitive. This example assumes one billing currency throughout the month.

A $4,000 spending illustration

Assume all purchases qualify and monthly spending equals $4,000. The USD ladder produces $60 + $10 + $5 = $75. The EUR ladder produces $24 + $7 + $2.50 = $33.50. These are hypothetical spending calculations using published bands, not tested transactions. Compare each route only after subtracting its funding and currency costs.

Before your next payment

Check that the merchant actually bills in EUR and compare the full cost if it offers another currency. Keep other membership tiers separate and recognize the USDC=$1 calculation assumption. A receipt plus the final asset debit lets you distinguish conversion markup, funding costs and the reward.
